About Us

About STAWI

STAWI is a Swahili word that means ‘to be in full swing’, ‘flourish’, ‘bloom’ or ‘thrive’. At STAWI we are committed to supporting families to thrive, one child, one parent, one adult at a time. We have designed mental health and well- being programs for children and young adults between 4 years to 25 years, along with their parents, caregivers and those who care for children and young adults.

Did you know?

Studies show that resilient children share two unmistakable characteristics: a healthy connection with at least one supportive adult, AND a set of learned skills that help them flourish mentally, morally and emotionally.

Why STAWI?

At STAWI Camp, we have provided a structured environment that brings together these two key ingredients for resilience. We are normalizing conversations around mental health.

What's More?

We are giving children and their caregivers a tool-kit with simple, practical strategies to support them to thrive through life's uncertainities.

No one is left behind.
ABOUT DR. CAROL CHAKUA

Hi, my name is Dr. Carol

I help parents who desire to have healthy relationships and better connections with their children to identify the obstacles that get in their way, to build resilience and to thrive through every phase of their parenting journey.
I am a mom, a psychologist, educator,  and parent coach who is passionate about parenting, mental health and quality education.

My work focuses on curating emotional wellness and parenting programs for children and their parents. My  greatest desire is that children and parents experience healthy relationships with one another.... and that parents thrive through every season of their parenting journey.

I am the CEO and Founder of STAWI Camp for WellBeing, Lead Coach at Stawi Champions Parenting Program, and the author of Parenting With Your Heart in Mind -  a practical guide to conscious, intentional and confident  parenting.

I combine my teaching, therapist and coaching skills to help you to journey inwards and identify the inner obstacles that get in the way of purposeful parenting. I then provide you with practical tools to parent with confidence, out of your own uniqueness rather than from a prescribed list of do's and don'ts. I guide you on how to transform ‘intense’ moments with your child into teachable moments for both you and your child.
I have infused my own personal experiences as a mom, my practice as a therapist working with families and in-depth research on parenting models that have been tried and tested over time, to put together simple and practical tools to help you and your children thrive through the different phases of your parenting journey.
